Knitters Porn

I recently got some new yarn and I am swooning.

As a child, my nana (who taught me to knit) used any old yarn she had. Usually acrylic and cheap. I never really knew anything else existed and the softest yarn I had ever touched was baby yarn. If I ask my mam for yarn as a gift, she also doesn’t think past the cheap acrylic from years ago, and doesn’t understand why that would be a gift. Well, it wouldn’t be, but nice yarn would be.

When I picked up my needles again a couple of years ago I started to notice other knitters talking about all this gorgeous yarn there was out there. I don’t really have a local yarn store other than a major chain which sells acrylic and a few acrylic blends. The local yarn shop nearest to me is always closed. I don’t know how she keeps the business going. When you are travelling a 30 mile round trip you need someone reliable.

I have had some beautiful yarns now since getting back into knitting. Don’t get me wrong. I have felt up some beautiful stuff! This, however, is the first time I’m blogging about it. Not because the other stuff was not as nice, it’s all been lush, but just because it’s the first time I thought, Hey, I should blog about the yarn I buy. So here it is. My first post on yarn I buy. Hopefully first of many. My stash is pretty small for a knitter. And full of rubbish acrylic I’m trying to get rid of. When knitters everywhere talk of stash busting,  I am slowly going to build my stash.

So here is my knitters porn stash…

From left to right,

Louisa Harding – Merlotto.

Shade 18 Olive green. 46% viscose, 34% polyamide, 20% linen. My least favourite of the bunch. It’s so small even though it is a 50g ball. It worries me that it will only be used for embellishments since it doesn’t seem enough to do a hat, but we’ll see.

Mirasol – Wach’i.

Shade 1511 Light Blue. 85% Pima Cotton, 15% Silk. This one made me swoon. It is so soft and summery in its weight. Can’t wait to use it.

Mirasol – Sulka.

Shade 222 Red Onion. 60% Merino wool, 20% Alpaca, 20% Silk. OMG. This is pure porn. Sorry but I can’t stop touching it. I fell in love with it immediately. It was spun in Peru for gods sake! Paddington himself could have done it! I already have ideas for this little crumpet.

Finally;

Rowan – Linen Drape.

Shade SH 847 Turquoise. 55% Linen, 45% Viscose. Bright and cheery and a silky feel. Perfect for summer again. Aghhhh.

There you go. That’s it for now. All of them make me weak at the knees. Man, being a knitter is weird.
